Social Value at Enable Infrastructure

At Enable, we firmly believe in the power of social value to create a sustainable and inclusive future for all. Our core values and business principles drive us to make a difference to society and leave a lasting legacy to the communities we serve.

Our commitment to social value extends far beyond our projects, as we actively support local causes, charitable initiatives, and educational programmes that empower our future workforce and contribute positively to society.

Our social value has 3 dimensions:

Empower future generations

The ‘Serious About Youth ‘Construkt’ Programme’ and is an exciting, youth-focused initiative, first developed as part of the ICE President’s Apprentices Scheme in 2014. The project gives young people exposure to the different opportunities within construction and engineering, and assistance to access the various career pathways available.

Enable funded 2 courses, kicking off the programme with site visits and construction-based workshops. Upon completion of the project, Enable have supported the young people into our apprenticeship scheme and employment opportunities.

Peter Williams participated in this programme and joined us as Graduate Quantity Surveyor. Peter said: “Being part of the Serious About Youth programme was a unique and eye-opening experience. The programme improved my confidence and made me step out of my comfort zone. This resulted in a very positive outcome for myself, and I’m now working on my career in quantity surveying at Enable.”

Enabling social mobility

We have made a 3-year commitment to Waterfront UTC, delivering Design Engineer Construct (DEC) qualifications and offering workshops, site visits, and summer placements. This partnership enriches students’ experiences and provides a comprehensive understanding of infrastructure roles.

After a site visit arranged for 31 students, Waterfront UTC noted, “Witnessing a wide range of job roles within infrastructure, design, and resourcing, students were inspired to pursue their aspirations.” Our programmes aim to create a robust pipeline of young talent ready to lead the industry into the future.

We embrace diversity & inclusion

Our participation in the Mayor of London’s Design Lab initiative reinforced our commitment to diversity and inclusion. We engaged in an EDI innovation and change programme, learning to create safe spaces and applying Equity by Design methods to enhance our inclusive culture. Through brainstorming and sharing ideas, our diverse team developed bespoke EDI initiatives, making our workplace more inclusive and engaging.

We believe that every contribution and opinion matters. By fostering an environment that supports and celebrates diversity, we empower our people and suppliers to feel engaged and valued. Our commitment to EDI ensures that we create an inclusive environment where everyone is treated fairly and with respect, empowering individuals to contribute openly and grow professionally.

Key Highlights:

– Providing engineering workshops, site visits, and summer work placements to students.

– Supporting young people through the ‘Serious About Youth’ Construkt Programme, leading to apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

– Developing bespoke EDI initiatives to enhance our inclusive culture.

Measuring and Monitoring Social Value Impact:

At Enable, we use Planet Mark’s data collection platform to verify our social impact using the TOMs national framework. Our recent report for FY 2023-24 showed that we delivered £344,059 of social value, reflecting our commitment to making a positive difference in our communities.

By embedding these principles into our daily operations, Enable Infrastructure continues to build a sustainable and inclusive future for all. Our efforts in education, social mobility, and diversity and inclusion are central to our mission of creating lasting social value.

Our Partners

Governance in ESG: How Enable Infrastructure Leads the Way

At Enable Infrastructure, we recognise that effective governance is the bedrock of our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments. Our governance practices ensure that we operate with integrity, transparency, and accountability, driving ethical business conduct across all our activities. This commitment enables us to create lasting value for our stakeholders and to contribute positively to society and the environment.

Leadership and Accountability

Our governance framework is anchored by strong leadership and clear accountability. The Board of Directors at Enable Infrastructure takes an active role in overseeing our ESG strategy, ensuring it aligns with our mission and values. Regular reviews of our policies, practices, and performance ensure that we stay on course, driving ESG integration throughout our business operations. Our dedicated ESG committee, which comprises members from various departments, ensures that ESG considerations are embedded in every aspect of our work.

Ethical Conduct and Compliance

Ethical conduct is at the heart of everything we do. We have established a comprehensive Code of Conduct that sets out the ethical standards expected of all employees, suppliers, and partners. This code is regularly updated to reflect evolving industry best practices and regulatory requirements. We also maintain stringent compliance measures to ensure our operations adhere to all relevant laws and regulations. Our compliance team conducts regular audits and assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks, ensuring we uphold the highest standards of integrity.

Standards & Quality Assurance

Maintaining high standards and ensuring quality across all operations is a critical aspect of our governance framework. At Enable Infrastructure, we are committed to delivering excellence in every project, product, and service. We have implemented rigorous quality assurance processes that align with both industry standards and our internal benchmarks.

Our Standards & Quality Assurance team plays a vital role in ensuring that all our projects meet the highest levels of quality and safety. This team is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving our quality management systems. These systems are designed to ensure that our work not only meets regulatory requirements but also exceeds the expectations of our clients and stakeholders.

Quality assurance at Enable Infrastructure is a continuous process. We conduct regular inspections, audits, and reviews to monitor the quality of our work, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions where necessary. By maintaining a strong focus on standards and quality, we ensure the delivery of reliable, safe, and high-performing infrastructure solutions.

Transparency and Reporting

Transparency is a key element of our governance approach. We believe in open and honest communication with our stakeholders, which is essential for building trust and maintaining our reputation. To this end, we provide regular, detailed reports on our ESG performance, including governance practices, environmental impact, social responsibility initiatives, and quality assurance measures. By offering clear and accessible information, we empower our stakeholders to make informed decisions and hold us accountable for our actions.

Risk Management

Effective risk management is integral to our governance strategy. We understand that the business environment is constantly evolving, and we must be proactive in identifying and addressing potential risks. Our risk management framework is designed to anticipate and mitigate challenges related to ESG factors, including quality-related risks. This approach helps ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of our business.

Stakeholder Engagement

We recognise that effective governance involves engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, regulators, and the communities in which we operate. We actively seek input from these groups to inform our ESG strategy, governance practices, and quality standards. This engagement allows us to better understand stakeholder expectations and respond to them effectively.

Continuous Improvement

At Enable Infrastructure, we are committed to continuous improvement. We regularly review our governance practices, standards, and quality assurance processes to ensure they remain relevant and effective. This involves staying up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices in ESG and quality management, as well as seeking feedback from our stakeholders. By continuously refining our approach, we ensure that our governance framework remains robust and responsive to the changing needs of our business and society.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Enable Infrastructure’s governance framework is the foundation of our ESG strategy. Through strong leadership, ethical conduct, rigorous standards and quality assurance, transparency, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and a commitment to continuous improvement, we ensure that our operations not only meet but exceed the expectations of our stakeholders. This commitment drives our mission to deliver sustainable, high-quality infrastructure solutions that contribute positively to society and the environment, while ensuring long-term value for all our stakeholders.
