Network Rail South-Eastern is presently making an investment in a project focused on enhancing the current track drainage system. This initiative encompasses site investigations, surveys, refurbishment, and design work to facilitate future renewal projects. Enable Infrastructure was contracted by Network Rail to carry out these works for completion during 2024.
The project
The main goal of this project is to offer services for the upkeep, assessment, or improvement of current assets, which have been pinpointed as a cause of subpar track performance. and where required to produce designs and construction for new or replacement track ancillary systems. Enable has secured a contract and is responsible he designs and construction tasks for the implementation, finalisation, and renovation of different projects.
The challenge
- On multiple occasions, access had to be cancelled at the last minute to accommodate others needing to use the access for critical maintenance works. This led to shifts being cut short and work efficiency being compromised. These cancellations sometimes happened on the same day as the scheduled works or even after Enable staff had already arrived onsite, posing not only inefficiencies for Enable but also incurring additional costs for Network Rail.
- Occasional emergency works required to be mobilised at very short notice.
The solution
- Enable Implemented mitigations to prevent and minimize impact, coordinating in advance with access personnel and local maintenance to grasp scheduled works in the vicinity. We maintained regular communication to prevent work conflicts. If conflicting works become a priority, Enable operated in different locations to ensure continuous progress. Line blockages are scheduled up to 20 weeks in advance as a contingency plan for access.
- Enable offers a wide range of resources for the Specialist Trackside Works & Labour project as part of the consortium. We collaborate with SMEs to provide tailored expertise and quickly respond to any emergencies. Our flexible services and strong Supply Chain ensure all project needs are met with innovative, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
